The 72,500 SF St. James Health & Wellness Institute is the first medically based fitness center to help Chicago Southland residents develop and maintain healthy lifestyles. A creative ownership operations structure was developed involving St. James Hospital, a state college and the local park district to develop the health and fitness complex. By sharing the financial burden, each partner and the community benefit.

The facility offers a 25-meter lap pool; warm-water therapy room; men's, women's and family locker rooms; sauna; steam room; medi-spa; group exercise rooms; whirlpool; indoor walk/jog track; 15,000 SF field house/gymnasium; multipurpose room; pro shop; heart-healthy café; wellness programs; cardiovascular and free weights equipment; child-care services; and physical, cardiac and orthopedic rehabilitation.

Since opening in 2001, St. James Health & Wellness Institute has surpassed its membership goals and its projected physical therapy visits by 20 percent.
